Billing FAQs

Why do I receive 2 bills?

This is our #1 question!

When you have any radiology exam performed, for example, x-rays, a CT, an Ultrasound, there can be two charges.

  1. One of the charges will be for the technical component, the test itself.
  2. The other one will be for the professional interpretation by the radiologist that reads the examination.

Why did I get a bill from Central Oregon Radiology when I had the service at another facility?

When a diagnostic test is done, by law it has to be read by a licensed radiologist, and our doctors at Central Oregon Radiology read for all the area hospitals.

Why did I get a bill from Central Oregon Radiology when my doctor looked at my test?

When you have a follow-up appointment with your doctor to go over your test results, he or she references the report from our radiologists. Your physician does not perform the professional interpretation of your imaging exam.

Why didn’t Central Oregon Radiology get pre-authorization?

Obtaining pre-authorization needs to come from the referring physician’s office. The reason for this is that your insurance company frequently requires chart notes from records at your doctor’s office to determine the medical necessity of the test. We are only the facility where the test is done. Obtaining pre-authorization is also the responsibility of the patient. The referring physician’s office may need to be told that an authorization needs to be done as they may not know the benefits of your policy.

We’ve received bills from each of the companies you bill for, can we combine accounts?

When you receive a bill for the reading of your test (Central Oregon Radiology) and a separate bill for the technical portion of the test (Cascade Medical Imaging or Central Oregon MRI) they cannot be combined. These are three separate companies.
